Nintendo is well known for introducing new game concepts alongside surprising technology required to enable or enhance them. Nintendo 3DS (three-dimensional display) and Wii (motion-sensing wand) are good examples. Almost 15 years before 3DS, Nintendo launched the Virtual Boy – its first 3D console. Along with it came Mario’s Tennis (released in Japan on 21 July 1995), the first iteration of the sport to feature the famous plumber and his friends. The 3D was considered convincing and the gameplay fun, leading to sequels on later consoles.
