On 27 April 2012, EVE Online's Goonswarm began a weekend-long attack on Jita, the biggest trade hub in New Eden. Jita is in high-sec space and, typically has around 1,500 players in at any one time. Hundreds of billions of ISK in goods and ships are traded in Jita daily. Goonswarm’s aim was to disrupt the economy of New Eden by destroying players’ ships and locking down Jita and its neighbouring systems. Attacking "clean" players in high-sec space is suicide, as the police rapidly arrive to destroy aggressors. Goonswarm constructed a battle fleet of around 15,000 ships, all loaded with just one round of ammunition. Coordinated squadrons and wings used their one shot each to destroy player targets before being executed by the police. During the first day of this event, known as "Burn Jita", around 100 billion ISK worth of player assets were destroyed, roughly equivalent to $3,600 in real-world money. Burn Jita was repeated in 2013 and 2014.
