Although basic in presentation compared to what we now see in games such as Evolve (Turtle Rock, 2015) Alien vs. Predator (by Rebellion, UK), released for the Atari Jaguar console in 1994, gave gamers their first opportunity to play as the monster in a game. And what better place to start than the iconic alien and predator? There are three scenarios to explore: the Alien must rescue its queen, travelling through air-ducts and cocooning Marines as it goes. Secondly, the Predator is trying to kill the Alien queen, and can turn invisible. Thirdly, the Marine – Private Lewis – must escape the military base that is rampant with Aliens and Predators, resorting to more traditional firepower such as shotguns and, of course, flamethrowers.
