Publisher Konami was responsible for the creation of DrumMania, the first rhythm-action game to use a drum-like controller. Unsurprisingly, the game, which hit Japanese arcades on 10 July 1999 and has since appeared on home consoles too, requires the player to follow on-screen prompts to bang out the percussion line to a range of tunes.
