The 2D action-adventure Terraria (Re-Logic, 2011) was first released the same year as the modern master of user-generated content (UGC) Minecraft (Mojang, 2011), and is sometimes compared to the blocky behemoth because both games enable users to create and build extensively within their respective worlds. A video of Minecraft YouTuber “stampylonghead”, aka Joseph Garrett (UK), playing Terraria for his first time, entitled “Terraria Xbox – My First Night [1]”, had been viewed 9,336,915 times as of 24 April 2018. The broadcaster, now more widely known as "Stampy Cat", had not played the Xbox 360 version before recording his video and the footage follows him as he creates his avatar and attempts to explore, gather resources and build a primitive shelter to help protect against zombies and the game's other hostile creatures.
