To celebrate the 25th anniversary of the original Nintendo World Championships competition held in 1990, Nintendo staged a sequel event on 14 June 2015 at that year's Electronic Entertainment Expo in Los Angeles, California, USA. The event culminated with two players, Narcissa Wright and John "John Numbers" Goldberg (both USA), attempting to complete four specially designed and previously unseen courses for the then-unreleased Super Mario Maker (Nintendo EAD, 2015). Everything came down to who could complete the last of the four courses fastest. "John Numbers" triumphed on the day, completing the mystery course in a time of 4 minutes 32 seconds, taking the title of Nintendo World Champion 2015 into the bargain.
In the final event, "John Numbers" started the last unseen Super Mario Maker course with a 15-second head-start owing to speedy performances earlier in the competition.
