As of 23 February 2016, the prize pool for the Halo World Championship stood at $2.5 million – the largest ever for a first-person shooter eSports tournament. Originally announced at $1 million, the prize pool was being swelled through players making microtransactions in Halo 5: Guardians. The tournament was set to be staged from 18–20 March 2016 in Hollywood, USA with 16 teams scheduled to take part.
