The first (and so far only) racing game to win a Golden Joystick Award for Game of the Year is Out Run (Sega AM2, 1986). The Golden Joysticks are the longest-running of the world's videogame awards and Out Run took the prize in the 1987/1988 ceremony hosted by British TV personality Chris Tarrant. It beat The Last Ninja and Renegade.
