Despite the launch of PS3 in November 2006, EA Tiberon continued to release annual versions of the landmark American Football title for its predecessor console the PS2 until Madden NFL 12, five years later – on 30 September 2011.
The PS2's longevity as the best-selling home console is further underlined by the fact that EA had stopped releasing Madden titles for its nearest rival sixth-gen console, the Xbox, back in 2008.
It remains to be seen how long sales for Madden NFL titles on seventh generation will justify the costs of releasing new games for those older platforms.
