South of Sputnik Planum, Pluto, are two geological features that resemble volcanoes. Preliminary results show that Piccard Mons could be as high as 5.6 km and around 200 km across. Wright Mons, nearby, is around 4 km high and 160 km across.
If these prove to be cryovolcanoes, the material they are most likely to erupt would be a mixture of water ice, ammonia, nitrogen and/or methane.
Cryovolcanoes are currently the best explanation for these features. If they are not cryovolcanoes, then they are something new and possibly unique to Pluto.
