Actor Harrison Ford (USA, b. 13 July 1942) was 73 years 156 days old when Star Wars: The Force Awakens (USA) was released to cinemas on 16 December 2015, making him the oldest actor to be top-billed in the cast of a film that has grossed $1 billion worldwide.

In second place, Robert Downey Jr (UK, b. 1965) was a comparatively sprightly 50 when Avengers: Age of Ultron (USA) debuted in May 2015.

Although Sir Ian McKellan also celebrated his 73rd birthday prior to the release of the billion-grossing The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey (USA) in 2012, he was officially second-billed in the film, behind the 41-year-old Martin Freeman (UK).

The film had a staggered worldwide release, but came out on 16, 17 and 18 December 2015 in most territories.
