A teaser trailer for the film adaptation of Maurice Sendak’s Where the Wild Things Are (USA, 2009) was first screened alongside the movie How the Grinch Stole Christmas (USA) on its release on 9 December 2000. At that point, the film was scheduled for release by Universal in 2001, but when plans by director Spike Jonze to shoot the film using live action and practical special effects fell through owing to budgetary issues, Universal dropped the project, which was subsequently picked up by Warner Bros, eventually seeing release on 11 December 2009, a full nine years and two days after the initial trailer had first been screened.
