With interest in spy movies arguably running at an all-time high in the wake of the record-breaking revival of the Bond series, 15 of the 164 films granted widespread theatrical release in 2015 had an espionage theme or featured a spy or secret agent as the central character – roughly 9% of the total, and more than in any other year in cinema history.
In order of worldwide box office gross, spy-related movies released in 2015 were: Spectre (USA/UK), Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation, Kingsman: The Secret Service, Spy!, Bridge of Spies, Black Mass, Sicario, The Man From U.N.C.L.E. (USA/UK), Point Break (2015), Hitman: Agent 47, The Transporter Refueled, American Ultra, Blackhat, Mortdecai and Spooks: The Greater Good (UK).
