The most American Academy Award nominations received by an actress without winning is seven, by Glenn Close (USA). Her latest nomination came at the 91st Academy Awards, held on 24 February 2019 at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, Los Angeles, California, USA, when she lost out to Olivia Colman as Queen Anne in The Favourite (Ireland/UK/USA, 2018).

Close was nominated as Best Actress four times, in 2019 for The Wife (UK/Sweden/USA, 2017), in 2012 for Albert Nobbs (UK/Ireland/France/USA, 2011), in 1989 for Dangerous Liaisons (USA/UK, 1988) and in 1988 for Fatal Attraction (USA, 1987); and Best Supporting Actress three times, in 1985 for The Natural (USA, 1984), in 1984 for The Big Chill (USA, 1983) and in 1983 for The World According to Garp (USA, 1982).
