Fastest land speed record in Kerbal Space Program (version 1.0.2)

Players of acclaimed space flight sim Kerbal Space Program often use the game's official forum to set challenges for the global community. On 12 May 2015, KSP player "Commander Jebidiah" challenged rivals to record the fastest land speed in version 1.0.2 of the PC game. On 18 May 2015, "PCanas" (Portugal) recorded a speed of 871m/s on "Easy" mode. The sole conditions of the run were that the craft must stay on the ground before the end of the runway and that it must survive till the end of the runway.

Despite the number of challenges on the KSP forums, creating records for this game is problematic by Squad's own admission. This is due to the abundance of mods, the number of changes in subsequent versions of the game, and the breakdown of the way we think about physics once you enter the realm of space.
