Based on data collated by the Global Observatory on Donation and Transplantation as of January 2025, Spain was the country with the highest number of organ donations from deceased persons per capita in 2023: 49.39 organs were donated per million population.

This put Spain just ahead of the USA (48.05 organs per million citizens) and Portugal (36.76).

In terms of total number of donations, the USA came out on top with 16,336 organ donations from deceased donors in 2023, followed by China, (6,454), Brazil (3,759) and Spain in fourth place on 2,346.
