The largest gland in the human body is the liver, which weighs between 1.2 and 1.5 kg (2.64–3.3 lb) and measures up to 22 cm (8.6 in) long and 10 cm (3.9 in) wide. It secretes between 400 and 800 ml of bile daily in the average adult, which assists in the digestion and absorption of fats, and the elimination of waste products via the faeces.

A gland is an organ that secretes substances for distribution around the body.

The liver is also the largest internal organ, and therefore the largest gland, as it secretes bile.
