The Xbox 360 version of Deadly Premonition carved a 68% review swing among critics when it was released in 2010. Across the game's original 33 reviews, IGN and Machinima both scored the survival horror a measly 20%, the former describing it as "awful in every way". Other outlets scored it 4/10. Meanwhile, Destructoid lauded it with a perfect 10/10, while there were gushing reviews from Digital Chumps (88%) and Xbox World Australia (83%). Destructoid wrote: "There is absolutely nothing in this industry that can compare to how weird and wonderful the whole experience is."

Deadly Premonition had six review scores at 50% and below: Machinima (2/10), IGN (2/10), gameReview (4/10), GameCritics (4/10), Cheat Code Central (2.5/5) and RealGamer (5/10).

It’s overall review swing between its highest and lowest multiple scores was 68%.

Deadly Premonition was also released for PC and PS3. In September 2015, a "Collector's Edition" of the PS3 Director's Cut was announced for release in November 2015 – more than five years after the game's original release.
