The horror adventure Until Dawn (Supermassive Games; 2015) featured around 87 scripted jump-scares, with around 35 in a single playthrough. Until Dawn's jump-scares included books flying off shelves, traps springing shut, wolves leaping out at the player and doll's heads suddenly moving.

A jump-scare is typically a sudden or unexpected moment, deliberately designed to make the player jump.

Such has been the popularity of the jump-scares in the game, there were some 350–400 jump-scare compilations from the videogame on YouTube alone, as of 21 September 2015 – less than one month after the game's release. One of the main compilers and fans was YouTube megastar PewDiePie.
