In early August 2015, Australian Redditor "TPangolin" aka Jett began simulating an epic battle in the RTS videogame Civilization V, which he dubbed "Battle Royale Mk. II". The game featured a possible maximum of 62 rival civilisations, 61 of which were AI-controlled. The battle's subreddit page /r/civbattleroyale, which posts regular updates on the ensuing power struggle, received a staggering 828,081 views in March 2016. Monthly unique views peaked at 84,730.

"TPangolin" revealed to GWR that the game used 18 base civilisations from the game, while the others were customised by the community using mods. He also used "minor mods" to ramp up the aggression between rival nations. Further content, such as maps and side games, was also being provided by the giant /r/civ community.

"TPangolin" admitted to GWR on 21 September 2015 that owing to the size of the battle, it was possible that it could continue indefinitely.

Unfortunately, because there is a finite number of civilisations able to enter a game at once (62), "TPangolin"'s battle cannot claim a "Largest battle in a strategy videogame" record.

As of September 2015, screenshot albums for each update of the game were being viewed around 22,000 times each. The game also had 7,000 subscribers.
