At the 2015 Hannover Messe trade fair for industrial technology (held annually in Germany), London-based company Moley Robotics demonstrated the first consumer-targeted robot chef, which prepared a lobster bisque for the delighted exhibition attendees. The robot comprises a pair of dextrous arms and hands that are integrated in a worktop/cooker/sink unit. The concept of the robot is to download recipes via an online database that operates like a cookery equivalent of iTunes. Each recipe is created by a professional chef, with the robot mimicking the exact sequence of steps used in creating the recipe. This, of course, requires use of the same utensils and ingredients, but the makers of the robot envisage that the robot is inclusive of a complete kitchen area with defined utensils and ultimately even a refrigerator. Once a recipe has been stored, the robot is capable of repeating each recipe as often as necessary.

Aimed to be on sale during 2017, the initial pricing looks set to be around £10,000 ($15,340).
