Labyrinthia at Silkeborg in Denmark is the world’s largest three-dimensional maze, covering 1,300 m² and constructed from larch wood panels slotted into concrete posts. The total path length is 0.62 miles. First constructed in 1998 and then rebuilt in 2005, the maze is of a modular construction, allowing the owners to rearrange the paths at regular intervals. Most visitors take about 30–45 minutes to first reach the four corners marked with coloured flags, and then find the centrally placed exit. Stairways and overhead bridges give the maze its 3D quality, and add further complexity. Those who successfully complete the maze are awarded a certificate. For those who give up, the panel walls are raised 0.5 m from the ground, allowing visitors to crawl underneath.
Labyrinthia also boasts a water maze, colour maze, balance maze and even a scent-based maze for dogs.
