“Flowers” by Miley Cyrus (USA, b. Destiny Cyrus) amassed 115,156,896 worldwide streams on Spotify for the week ending 26 January 2023, smashing the record she’d set one week earlier – 96,032,624 – with the same song. Before “Flowers” bloomed into Spotify’s most listened to track across a seven-day period, “Easy on Me” by Adele had set the standard with 84,952,932 streams in the week to 21 October 2021. “Flowers” is the first taste of Cyrus’ eighth studio album, Endless Summer Vacation, which is scheduled for release on 10 March 2023.

On 20 January 2023, “Flowers” delivered its highest daily figure on Spotify to date – 18,424,325, the fourth-highest number of worldwide streams for a track in 24 hours ever. Unusually, “Flowers” had gained listeners day by day throughout its first tracking week, debuting at No.3 on Spotify’s “Daily Top Songs Global” chart on 13 January with 7,716,102 streams and posting 9,631,889, 10,975,946, 15,768,832, 17,077,686 and 17,380,410 streams, respectively, on 14–18 January before hitting its first-week peak of 17,481,759 streams on 19 January 2023.

Incredibly, as of 26 January 2023, “Flowers” was placed fourth, fifth, sixth, ninth, 10th, 13th, 14th, 16th, 17th and 19th – i.e., half of the positions in the Top 20 – in the fast-moving list of the most streamed tracks in 24 hours on Spotify.

Only Mariah Carey’s “All I Want for Christmas Is You” (21,273,357 streams on 24 December 2022), Adele’s “Easy on Me” (19,749,704 on 15 October 2021) and “Last Christmas” by Wham! (19,079,817 on 24 December 2022) posted higher numbers than “Flowers” did on 20 January 2023.

The top six tracks on Spotify’s “Weekly Top Songs Global” standings as of 26 January 2023 were all by female artists, with Cyrus’ 26 and 19 January front-runners joined by Adele’s “Easy on Me”, Olivia Rodrigo’s “Good 4 U”, Taylor Swift’s “Anti-Hero” and Rodrigo’s “Drivers License”.

Not surprisingly, “Flowers” logged 100 million streams on Spotify quicker than any other track, bringing up the milestone early on its eighth day of availability (20 January 2023).
