Approximately 45,000 spectators watched the final of the PES 2016 UEFA EURO 2016 virtual tournament in Champ de Mars, Paris, France, on 7 July 2016, in which Spain's Alejandro Alguacil Segura beat France's Antoine Choite Mbamy to be crowned the virtual soccer king of Europe. The match provided a thrilling climax to a two-day tournament that was staged to coincide with the actual Euro football championships taking place in the country. Some 1,200 players had previously participated in qualifying tournaments across Europe, with only 16 invited to take part in the finals in Paris.

The record beat the 40,000 who packed out the Seoul World Cup Stadium in South Korea to watch the climax of the 2014 League of Legends World Championship on 19 October 2014. The tournament was broadcast on nine screens, including one that holds the record for the largest screen at a videogame tournament. Following the final, the crowds swelled to 92,000 as more people gathered to watch the Euro 2016 semi-final match between France and Germany on the big screen, in which France sealed a place in the final.
