The first Smite World Championship, hosted on 9–11 January 2015 in Atlanta, Georgia, USA, had a total prize pool of $2,612,260 (£1,672,119) – the highest prize pool of any debuting eSports world championship and the fourth highest overall as of 15 July 2015. Eight teams competed in the finals, with America's five-man team Cognitive Prime taking home the top prize of $1,306,130 (£836,060). Smite is a mythological-themed MOBA, developed and published by Hi-Rez Studios. It was released in March 2014. At the time, the 2015 Smite World Championship had the third largest prize pool in eSports, behind only Dota 2's International 2013 and 2014 tournaments.
