While the first live concert featuring videogame music took place in Tokyo, Japan, on 20 August 1987 (the "Family Classic Concert"), it took 16 years for the rest of the world to catch on. On the same date in 2003, the first Symphonic Game Music Concert took place at the Gewandhaus concert hall in Leipzig, Germany. Organized by producer and gaming enthusiast Thomas Böcker (Germany), it saw the Czech National Symphony Orchestra perform music from a variety of videogames. The Symphonic Game Music Concert became an annual, sell-out event at Germany's Games Convention up until 2007, when it moved to Cologne and expanded its concept to include livestreaming, radio broadcasts and new performances.
