On 4 June 2015, 2K Games announced that Spike Lee (USA) had been signed up to write and direct the single-player story mode in its forthcoming NBA 2K16. Lee, a hugely revered film director and an ardent fan of basketball team New York Knicks, had previously been nominated for two film Oscars - Best Original Screenplay for his 1989 drama Do the Right Thing and Best Documentary (Feature) for 4 Little Girls (1998). His story mode in NBA 2K16 centres on a basketball player called Frequency Vibrations. "It's about the trials and tribulations of life on a big stage with the money, fame, temptations, family members, the press, fans, all that stuff," Lee told Associated Press. NBA 2K16 was due out in September 2015.
