Although the Nickelodeon Kids' Choice Awards started in 1988, the category for "Favorite Book" didn't emerge until 1995. The debut winner of the award was Deep Trouble, written by the most prolific children's horror author – R L Stine (USA) – as part of the highly successful Goosebumps series. The 1995 Kids' Choice Awards was also the inaugural event to feature the "Favorite Video Game" category: this was won by platformer Donkey Kong Country (Nintendo, 1994).
