Japanese composer Nobuo Uematsu is one of the most revered names in videogaming, having composed music for 13 of the 15 main games in the Final Fantasy series. As of 27 February 2016, Uematsu's music has been performed in at least 535 videogame concerts worldwide. This includes dedicated Final Fantasy concerts such as Distant Worlds (107 dates since 2007), Dear Friends (11 performance during 2004 and 2005), the Japanese Bra Bra Final Fantasy Tour of 2015 (17 dates) and Final Symphony I & II by the German producer Thomas Böcker (13 performances to date), who also featured Uematsu in his Leipzig Game Convention concerts (x4) the Symphonic Fantasies tour (x7) and two performances of the Uematsu tribute concert, Symphonic Odysseys. Also included, among other Uematsu performances, are a total of 334 Video Games Live concerts, two concerts by the Metropole Orkest (Netherlands), and at least nine dates of the PLAY! A Video Game Symphony tour since 2006.

Uematsu's most celebrated credits include the iconic soundtracks for Final Fantasy VII, Final Fantasy VIII and Final Fantasy IX. He has also composed and contributed music for a number of other games, notably Chrono Trigger (1995), Blue Dragon (2006), Super Smash Bros. Brawl (2008) and Terra Battle (2014).

Uematsu's record would beat that of fellow Japanese composer Koji Kondo, who is renowned for his work on the Mario and Zelda games. Kondo's music had been performed at 329 Video Games Live shows as of 12 September 2015. However, there had been far fewer tours dedicated to his videogames series compared to that of Final Fantasy, which has long been celebrated for its cinematic music.
