Austria's Donauinselfest ("Danube Island Festival") attracted a record 3.3 million revellers to Vienna on the weekend of 26-28 June 2015. The 32nd edition of the free, open-air festival offered the biggest names in Austrian music alongside internationally recognized stars such as Anastacia, Taio Cruz, Natalie Imbruglia and Robin Schulz, plus food and drink stalls and family entertainment.

Approximately 2,000 artists - everything from pop, dance and rock to folk and classical - provide more than 600 hours of entertainment at Donauinselfest. One of the most popular attractions is "Rock the Island", an X Factor-style competition which gives unsigned acts the chance to perform on one of the festival's main stages after an audition process. The festival is divided into "areas" and takes place on a 6.5-km (4-mile) strip of land on the 21-km-long (13-mile) island of Donauinsel, in central Vienna. The three-day festival's previous attendance record was set in 2013, with 3.2 million visitors. In 2015, 1.2 million people attended on Saturday (27 June), with 1.1 million on Friday and 1 million on Sunday. While Donauinselfest is the highest-attended music festival at one location, other national and international festivals boast more visitors. Fête de la Musique, for example, presents 15,000 concerts each 21 June (World Music Day) that attract 10 million people to the streets of France - and many more around the world.
