On 24 December 2013, Parker Liautaud (France/USA), along with team-mate Doug Stoup (USA), reached the South Pole after skiing with sleds 563.3 km (349 mi) on the Leverett Glacier SPOT Ice Road from the Ross Ice Shelf inner coastline in 18 days 4 hr 43 min. They were accompanied by a vehicle that followed them to record their journey.

Despite altitude sickness, Liautaud walked about 30 km (18 mi) a day.
