On 10 November 2014, Loick Peyron (France) set a speed record on the 3,540-nautical-mile Route du Rhum between Saint Malo, France and Pointe-à-Pitre, Guadeloupe, achieving it in 7 days 15 hours 8 minutes 32 seconds and at an average speed of 19.34 knots on board the 103-ft trimaran Banque Populaire VII. The achievement was ratified by the World Sailing Speed Record Council (WSSRC).
The transatlantic single-handed yacht race takes place every four years in November.
