On 27 January 2015, aged 47, veteran extreme adventurer Will Gadd (Canada) climbed Niagara Falls' semi-frozen Horseshoe Falls on the US/Canadian border, during an event sponsored by Red Bull. Describing the sensation of scaling one of the world’s most powerful waterfalls, he said: "It vibrates your intestines and makes you feel very, very small... I've climbed things that are harder from a pure technical standpoint. But from a putting it all together and keeping it safe standpoint, that was about the hardest climb of my life."
Shortly after, Gadd was followed up Horseshoe Falls by fellow Canadian ice-climber Sarah Hueniken, who achieved the first ice-climb of Niagara Falls (female).
Gadd is not new to this difficult sport, having picked up three golds in the sport in 1998–99 – a record for the most X Games ice-climbing medals.
