The collaborative result between developer Upper One Games and the Alaskan non-profit organization Cook Inlet Tribal Council, Never Alone became the world’s first commercial videogame developed inclusively with an indigenous culture. The atmospheric platformer followed an Inupiat girl and her arctic fox through eight Alaskan folk stories and was released in November 2014. “Never Alone is a story of empowerment that shines a light on Alaskan people,” its writer Ishmael Hope told Guinness World Records. “Its success has led to a world games initiative, which will tell stories of other under-represented communities around the world.”
