Highest grossing pirate movie series

Since the first movie was released in 2003, the five instalments of Disney's Pirates of the Caribbean (USA) series starring Johnny Depp as Captain Jack Sparrow have hauled in $4,522,062,632 (£3.34 billion) at the global box office, according to The Numbers, as of 21 September 2017.

A breakdown of the current takings for each film is as follows (The Numbers):

POTC: The Curse of the Black Pearl (2003) – $654,310,819

POTC: Dead Man's Chest (2006) – $1,066,179,725

POTC: At World's End (2007) – $960,996,492

POTC: On Stranger Tides (2011) – $1,045,713,802

POTC: Dead Men Tell No Tales (2017) – $794,861,794

This figure is set to rise with a reported sixth film in the series as yet to receive a release date.
