According to estimates published by Forbes, the highest-earning female athlete of 2022–23 is tennis star Serena Williams (USA), who reportedly earned $45.3 million (£35.8 million) in the 12 months up to 1 May 2023.
Williams retired from tennis in 2022, having secured the most Grand Slam singles titles of any player in the open era to date (24). Her income remained high as she still has endorsement deals with major brands such as Nike and Michelob Ultra. She also invests in her own venture capital fund Serena Ventures.
Broadening her repertoire outside sport, Williams set up the multimedia company Nine Two Six Productions in April 2023. Additionally, on screen she made a cameo appearance in the 2022 Netflix film Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery (USA).
