The first crossing of the Atlantic Ocean east to west from mainland Africa to mainland North America was by Riaan Manser and Vasti Geldenhuys (both South Africa), who rowed from Agadir, Morocco, to New York, USA, via the Bahamas and Miami in 172 days 8 hr between 30 December 2013 and 20 June 2014 on board Spirit of Madiba.
