The fastest solo row of the Indian Ocean in an open-class boat is 56 days 7 hr 29 min 11 sec set by Emmanuel Coindre (France), who rowed 5,960 km (3,700 miles) from Carnarvon, Western Australia, to Port West, Reunion Island, 700 km (435 miles) east of Madagascar, between 30 November 2013 and 25 January 2014 on board Long-Cours. An open-class boat is designed and built to the specifications of individuals, with no restrictions to the shape, length or height and number of hulls.
