Although popular with their audience of gamers, broadcasters on videogame live-streaming services such as Twitch seldom make much money from their streams. What money they do make usually comes in the form of donations of a few dollars a time. However, one wealthy stream watcher going by the tag of "Amhai" has made a habit of giving substantially more to streamers whose work he enjoys. Amhai has given a variety of streamers much larger donations up to the value of $40,000. The streamer who has benefited the most from Amhai's generosity is a zombie-game devotee who goes by the tag of "LibertyofGaming", who had received more than €69,000 as of 23 January 2015. The exact identity of Amhai is shrouded in mystery and there is some debate as to whether that all the donations have been made by the same person. He, or she, has donated money to players of World of Warcraft and Hearthstone as well as the upcoming zombie title H1Z1.
Reports of Amhai first surfaced in the US in 2013, and there was a flurry of reports on his exploits in July 2014, but his largest donations to date occurred in France in 2015.
Many believe Amhai to be a wealthy Arab royal with links to the petro-chemical industry. There is an unverified twitter account in his name, that claims he is a Qatari national based in Dubai – this was set up in January 2015 just after "LibertyofGaming" received his massive donation. However, some of his beneficiaries claim that these assumptions are untrue and that he is simply a wealthy private individual who enjoys watching videogames.
Whatever Amhai's true identity, it seems Twitch streamers are happy for him to remain a legend.
