The first athletes to win all of the 4 Deserts races in a single calendar year are Vicente Garcia Beneito (Spain) and Anne-Marie Flammersfeld (Germany), who won every race of the 2012 edition of the 4 Deserts Championships in the male and female category respectively. The 4 Deserts competition is a bi-annual event that awards the title of 4 Deserts champion to the person who ranks highest cumulatively having completed the Atacama Crossing (Chile), the Gobi March (China), the Sahara Race (Egypt) and The Last Desert (Antarctica). All four races are 250 kilometres long and last for seven days. The idea is that competitors test themselves against the driest, windiest, hottest and coldest places on Earth, which is why these locations were chosen.
