Often hailed as the closest one can come to feeling like being in that Cairo market scene from Raiders of the Lost Ark, Morocco’s Medina of Fes-a-Bali resembles life in the mid-1930s in more ways than one. This is mostly owing to the absence of automobiles. While it is home for over 156,000 people, none of them are allowed to drive cars within the city walls. Of course it helps that the narrow design of the ancient streets – some no more than two feet wide – make it virtually impossible for cars to get through.
