Bingham Canyon mine, owned and operated by Rio Tinto Kennecott, is around 4 km across and has a maximum depth of 1.2 km. Located in Utah, USA, it has been in operation since 1906 and, in 2012 it produced around 179,317 tonnes of copper as well as gold, silver and other metals. On 10 April 2013, a massive landslide of around 65–70 million cubic metres took place.
