Previous Fable games have featured cooperative play, but Fable Legends (Lionhead Studios, 2015) takes a different route with a multiplayer mode that pitches four playable heroes against a single playable villain. While the heroes can be controlled from a traditional third-person perspective by up to four individual players (with a computer AI taking control of any heroes where there is not a player available to control them), the villain has a wider god-like perspective and is able select and place enemy units for the heroes to fight around the map. Traditionally in multiplayer games, all players have a broadly similar set of equipment and skills in common that they can choose from. In asymmetric multiplayer games the opposing factions do not have the same skills to choose from, and the factions might even have different numbers of players on each team by design.
