The longest surviving octuplets were born at the Kaiser Permanente Medical Center, Bellflower, California, USA, and celebrated their sixth birthday on 26 January 2015. They were born on 26 January 2009, by in vitro fertilization, to 33-year-old Nadya Suleman (USA). Six embryos were implanted, but two of them divided to produce two sets of identical twins. Organizing these multiple birth children into sets of twins yields 28 unique pairs (combinations) and 56 pairs (permutations). The first set of octuplets born alive were the Chukwu infants on 20 December 1998, but the first born baby, a female, was born early on 8 December and died on 26 December. The Suleman octuplets are therefore only the second full set of octuplets to be born alive in the United States but, one week after their birth, surpassed the previous worldwide survival rate for a complete set of octuplets. Suleman was a mother of six children when she conceived the octuplets. As of 2014, she was the mother of fourteen children. Several embryos were also implanted in her previous five pregnancies, resulting in six children, two of whom are twins.
