The 2014 season of the NRL in Australia was the first season with no sendings off in the 106-year history of the league. The competition in its current format began in 1998 and there were 17 sendings off that year. Even the predecessors to the NRL, the NSWRL and ARL, that began in 1908 had at least one sending off each season. The 17 sendings off in 1998 was particularly high and in 2010 there was only one sending off, while in 2013 there were only two players sent off. Ironically, players spent a combined time of 111 weeks suspended during the season following post-match decisions by the NRL match review committee – significantly higher than the 79 weeks in 2013.
