Cyndi Lauper (born Cynthia Ann Stephanie Lauper, USA) is the only female to solely win the Tony Award for Best Score, taking home the trophy in 2013 for music and lyrics for Kinky Boots. The show is based on the true story of the strait-laced owner of a men's shoe factory who turns to stitching outrageous footwear for drag queens in order to overcome a dip in business.
Betty Comden (1968, 1978, 1991), Lynn Ahrens (1998) and Lisa Lambert (2006) have shared a Best Score award with collaborators in the past but only Lauper has won outright.
