The first nation to stage the Summer and Winter Olympic Games in the same year is France, who hosted the Summer Games in Paris and the inaugural Winter Olympics, in Chamonix in the French Alps in 1924.
France were the first of only three nations in Olympic history to host both the Summer Games and the Winter Games in the same year, the others being the USA in 1932 and Germany in 1936.
