Creating Triple A videogames is often a big investment, and part of that investment is often the creation of a game engine, a suite of software tools designed to help build the game. The first game to use EA DICE's Frostbite game engine was Battlefield: Bad Company, which was released on 23 June 2008. Game designers can chose whether to build their own game engines or license those of another company. The licensing route can often be quicker and cheaper in both cost and manpower requirements, than creating a bespoke engine. However, bespoke engines give game designers more control over what their game can do.
