The first tidal power station is La Rance Tidal Power Station in Brittany, France, opened on 26 November 1966, which is still in operation today, also making it the longest-running tidal power station (49 years, as of 2015). Its tidal barrage is 750 metres (2,461 feet) long and it features 24 turbines. With an installed capacity of 240MW, La Rance Tidal Power Station is also the second most powerful tidal power station in the world, only surpassed by the Sihwa Lake Tidal Power Station in South Korea (256MW).
