While the popular MMO World of Warcraft has lost around 4.4 million users since 2010, it still has the largest share of the MMO market by quite some scale. According to data collected from developers, publishers and payment service providers by Superdataresearch.com, Activision Blizzard's legendary game still commands 36% of the MMO market, way ahead of its nearest rival, Lineage 1 from NCSoft with a measly 9%.
MMO stands for massively multiplayer online game.
The report covers all "pay-to-play" MMOs, a definition that includes all MMOs "that earn revenue from subscriptions, expansion packs, and microtransactions-based virtual items and services (e.g. experience boosts, items, mounts, and server transfer fees)".
With a market share of 6%, Star Wars the Old Republic is the newest game in the survey, which was conducted before the release of The Elder Scrolls Online.
